Do I need my own sidecar or trike for the riding test?
Yes, this test is for people who have their own sidecar or trike and are an experienced rider.
If you do not have your own rig, or are a bit rusty on skills - we highly recommend one of the inexpensive training courses available through our partnering schools. They include tips and tricks for riding (some include the use of a school rig) and the license testing is included as well.
I've made an appointment, but where do I find out the details?
After making a testing appointment and paying the testing fee you'll be sent by email or text the time and location. More information about what to bring, when to check in, what to expect, and some basic policies will be emailed to you prior to your appointment. You can Contact Us if you have any questions or concerns. Please read the Terms & Conditions for additional information.
Can I reschedule my testing appointment?
Yes, you have the ability to reschedule your appointment up to 72 hours or more prior to your appointment. Just click on your original confirmation link and make any necessary changes. Please read the Terms & Conditions for additional information.
3-Wheel Motorcycle Training Courses
Puget Sound Safety does not offer training courses for sidecars or trikes, however our partner schools around Puget Sound do. If you are under the age of 18, are military or are DoD, then you are required to complete a training course and cannot do testing by itself to obtain an endorsement or get on a military installation. The good part is that the training and testing options start at $125 in price and some of the courses may offer the use of a school rig.
What schools offer the Sidecar/Trike Education Program (S/TEP)?
Why should I take a training course instead of just testing?
Under the professional guidance of an instructor, riders improve their skills and become far better at operating their rigs. There are many simple tips, tricks, and strategies that make riding easier, safer, and more fun. The cost is not much more than just testing and is a great way to gain confidence before mingling with all the hazards of riding on public roads.
Many insurance companies offer great discounts to people to participate in a training course. Many riding clubs (HOG, Kawasaki, GWTA, etc) require their members to continually improve riding skills through rider training courses.
Where can I learn more about the training courses?
The WA Department of Licensing website has a great page that summaries the two available courses for sidecars and trikes:
