Students often ask us for more riding time or if we know where they can rent a small motorcycle so they can continue to practice the skills they learned during their basic level course (also known as LTR, beginner course, novice course). In response to this request we offer the Additional Riding Session (also known as ARS, more riding time). This is an inexpensive way for students to continue to develop and hone skills while using our motorcycles and with the benefit of our instructors to help guide the way.
The ARS provides an opportunity to gain additional riding skill using our motorcycles with our instructors. Many new riders choose to take the ARS to save the cost of purchasing a "learning" bike, or to save the time it would take to repeat the entire beginner course. This class focuses on riding skills only and skips any classroom time.
Sometimes a student rider is not able to master all the necessary skills to pass the skills evaluation in the Basic Rider Course, or a student might have passed, but feel they need more time on the bike. This Additional Riding Session gives them an opportunity to gain more skill without taking the entire beginner course again. Training is done close to a one-on-one instructor/student ratio to work on the drills you need to work on. There isn't any waiting in line or working on the techniques you aren't needing. It is all about what you need and want. Some of the drills you might find during your session are:
Any student may participate in our ARS if they have completed the LTR course. Whether the student passed, failed or dropped out, as long as they completed their beginner course through exercise #16, "Avoiding Hazards". Students may take this course as often as they like and qualify no matter how long ago they took their LTR.
Do I have to ride the same motorcycle?
No. You may choose to ride any motorcycle available.
Yes. If your motorcycle meets all of the requirements of our training motorcycles and you have the necessary insurance you may be permitted to ride your own bike. Your bike will have to meet two of the following requirements as a minimum:
You will need to check with our office for more information and approval.
The ARS is 2 hours and provides very personalized training to what you need. Riding exercises may be shorter or longer depending on your performance and needs. Since this course is designed to maximize riding time for you the instructor will only coach as needed and have the freedom to use coaching techniques specific to the your needs.
