Learning to ride a motorcycle safely demands physical activity and an alert mind. Get plenty of rest and make sure you have eaten prior to class.
Class sessions start promptly. There are no refunds or rescheduling options for being late or missing a session. You will be required to pay the tuition again to reschedule into another course.
This course is designed for the complete beginner rider. Regardless of your experience level, this course will begin with the basics of motorcycle riding (e.g. introduction of controls and basic techniques). Sometimes students who enroll are not ready to ride and may choose to stop early or, in some cases, be removed from the class. Though it is our goal to see every student succeed, our instructors must sometimes dismiss students for safety concerns, not meeting activity objectives, or for repeatedly failing to respond to coaching. If a student demonstrates that he/she is not physically or emotionally able to ride a motorcycle safely, that student will be removed from the riding activities, and there will be no refund or rescheduling without paying the tuition again.
If you drop or crash the motorcycle, regardless of how slow or lack of visible damage, you will be asked to account for the incident by completing a report. The instructor will release any student who, in their opinion, presents a safety hazard to themselves or others, who repeatedly fails to respond to coaching, or who repeatedly does not follow directions, regardless of whether they even had an incident.
E.g. Scooter requests, verbal test, Spanish test, English as second language, disabilities (physical, mental, or learning), etc. Students with special requests or needing additional accommodations during the course should contact the office in advance to make necessary arrangements.
To receive a permit, you must successfully complete this Basic Training and pass the Department of Licensing (DOL) permit level knowledge test and permit level skills test. Upon passing, you will be able to add the permit onto your license at any local DOL (DOL fees will apply). The permit allows you to practice on public roads for 180 days during daylight hours without a passenger. To receive an endorsement, you must successfully complete and pass an additional DOL endorsement level knowledge test and an endorsement level skills test. Upon passing, you will be able to add the endorsement onto your license at any local DOL (DOL fees will apply). You must wait at least 3 business days before going into the DOL for the permit or endorsement to allow time for your scores to be submitted to the DOL.
Students who have completed the basic training but do not successfully pass the written test or the riding test are eligible to retest within 90 days of course attendance. Additional cost may apply. It is the student’s responsibility to contact the office to schedule any retests or to discuss additional training options.
